Itinerary
Leave your Luxor hotel and travel to the West Bank of the Nile River. As you head there, hear from your guide by Rotana Travel about the Valley of the Kings, the mountain-cut royal necropolis of Thebes. Take in the spectacular views of the rugged mountains and, upon arrival, make a brief stop at the valley's visitor center. You will then be free to explore the inner rock-cut chambers and tunnels. Guides are not allowed to enter the tombs with you, but your guide will describe what to look for before you enter. Walk colorful, hieroglyph-covered corridors and view painted chambers that once housed the remains of ancient Egypt's rulers. Next, drive to the Temple of Hatshepsut—a vision of geometrical colonnades hewn into a cliffside. Learn about ancient history and the life of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt's first female ruler. Stroll around the courtyards and terraces, and admire the statues and hieroglyphics that adorn them. Stop for photos at the Colossi of Memnon, two towering statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III that once stood at his now long-gone funerary temple. The statues have been the source of many stories and legends over the years, including the Roman-era graffiti carved into the stone. Before your tour in Luxor concludes, you might like to visit an alabaster factory and, if desired, make a few hand-cut piece purchases as souvenirs.
Once your day tour is over, we will transfer you back to your hotel or your Nile cruise in Luxor.
