Itinerary

Take a camel ride to the southern point of Elephantine Island, where, located near Aswan, St. Simeon's Monastery is a single monastery, an ancient fortress-monastery that was largely constructed during the 7th century.

This monastery was named St. Simeon by the archaeologists and travelers, but the earlier Arabic and the Coptic texts called it Anba Hatre-Hidra, Hadri, Hadra-named after an anchorite who was ordained bishop of Syene-now Aswan-by the Patriarch Theophilus-385-412 AD. Anba Hatre married at the age of eighteen, and tradition holds that within days of his wedding, he watched the passing of a funeral procession sight that prompted him to keep his virginity and eventually become a disciple of Saint Baiman. Under the mentorship of the latter, he lived an ascetic life for eight years before retiring further into the desert, where he closely studied the life of Saint Antony. He died during the reign of Theodosius I. This will be the end of your tour, after which you will be transferred back to your Aswan hotel by your tour guide. Through Rotana Travel Egypt you can get many more enjoyable trips in Egypt Day Tour
